4 simple steps to Zipvan freedom
join 1. join Just apply today. It only takes a few minutes.
Once you're approved, you get your very own Zipcard.
Complete the online application, which takes just a few minutes. Once we receive and review your driving record, you'll get your own Zipcard in just a few days. Once you receive your Zipcard, you can begin reserving Zipvans and driving right away!
reserve 2. reserve Reserve one of our vans – for a couple hours or the entire day.
Do it online or use a phone. We're easy.
You can do it online or over the phone. You choose the van you want. Choose the time slot you want at the location you want. Reserve minutes or months in advance.
unlock 3. unlock Walk to the van, then just hold your Zipcard to the windscreen.
The doors will unlock, and it's all yours!
Your Zipcard will only open the van you've reserved during the time you've reserved it (which means no one else can open your Zipvan during that time, either). All you do is walk to the van and hold your card to the windscreen – the doors will unlock.
drive 4. drive Drive away... and return to the same reserved parking spot at the end of your reservation. It's that simple.
And remember, fuel, insurance and the Congestion Charge are included too.
Well, we guess you don't need us to tell you how to drive. Fuel, reserved parking, maintenance, the Congestion Charge and insurance are all included (though you may be responsible for excess on the insurance if you get in an accident). Just bring your Zipvan back when you're done and park it in the same reserved parking space. That's all there is to it!

  • Reservations include 60 free miles per day. So if you reserve for an hour, you get 60 miles. If you reserve for a day, you get 60 miles. Mileage above and beyond the 60 free miles is charged a per mile fee. See details. For reservations that exceed 24 hours, you get 10 miles for each additional hour up to a maximum of 60 miles per day. So a 26-hour reservation would include 80 miles (60 miles for the first 24 hours + 20 for the additional 2 hours). A two-day reservation would include 120 miles (2 days x 60 miles). Make sense?

  • We do. You just need to fill the tank using the fuel card inside the car when it gets to 1/4 full. Or is it 3/4 empty? Whichever. Such a complex thought for such an easy question.

  • We do – we pay it and manage the entire process for you. You'll never have to worry about it again (in a Zipvan, that is). It's included in the price you pay.

    Have no idea what this is? Then you are either new to London or have been living under a rock. The London Congestion Charge is operated by Transport for London as a way of reducing traffic congestion in the city during high traffic times. We pay this fee on behalf of our members. How's that for convenience!

  • Unlike rental companies, we don't make you pay more for insurance coverage – it's included with your membership. Nice, eh?

    If you do have an incident with your Zipvan during your reservation, we may have to charge you a damage fee of up to £1,000. You have the option to purchase a monthly or annual damage fee waiver to reduce that amount or to eliminate it altogether.

    If there are injuries and/or property damage to another party, you are covered while using a Zipvan by a loss and liability policy. This coverage extends to losses arising from an accident in which a Zipvan driver and vehicle are involved. We provide coverage for damage to the vehicles, other property and injured parties.

    Zipvan's insurance coverage does not extend to members in any vehicle other than a Zipvan. A non-member driving a Zipvan is not covered as well. Unfortunately, we will revoke membership if we learn about unauthorised use. If you have questions about the insurance we provide relative to your particular circumstances, we recommend that you consult with a licensed insurance agent and put them in contact with us at insurance@zipcar.com if needed.

  • For members under 25, there's an extra driving charge of £1.50/hr or £18/day (which expires after 15 damage-free trips with the club).

  • You certainly can! It only takes a few minutes to register online and you can reserve vans straight away and unlock them with Zipcar's free iPhone® and Android® apps. You can also call us and we'll unlock the van remotely (free to new members). We pop your Zipcard straight in the post and it should be with you in 3-7 days.
